I began the day by walking a short distance from the hotel to see the open field, where in 1944, stood a German POW camp for captured Russion soldiers. At the site was a replica of the original guard tower & a Norwegian sign & photo of the camp as it was 64 years ago. I stood there thinking that the people who witnessed events like this are no longer with us. People like my father & uncle who were US soldiers in Europe & are no longer here to tell about it. By 9:30 I was driving north on a narrow Norwegian road winding my way north to see the legendary Fjords. While the road in some places was very narrow, there was not much traffic on them. By the half way point where the road connected to highway 7, I joined more traffic, in particular trucks & busses. Overall the drive was enjoyable with new vistas of spectacular scenery around every bend. I arrived in Sognal unharmed & looking forward to seeing more of the Sogne Fjord on tomorrows drive.
