27 JUNE, 2008: THE JOURNEY ENDS IN SWEDEN

All things come to an end, as does this trip. I’ve traveled 6500 driving Miles in 6 weeks & I’m ready to go home. This morning, I had the 6 weeks of grime washed off my Volvo & drove to the Volvo Visitor Center to make arrangements to have my car shipped home to California. The estimated delivery date is 14 august 2008. I hope I can have the garage cleaned up before then. Volvo arranged transportation for me to return to the Radisson Hotel in Gothenburg. After getting settled in, I decided to take a walking tour of the city. Before I left the hotel, I found a rack of tourist information in the hotel lobby. I picked up a map & studied the brochure for the Liseberg amusement park. From my pre-trip research I was aware of this amusement park & I thought it would require a trip on a trolley or bus to get there. I then studied the city map. There it was not far from the hotel. Liseberg was within easy walking distance from my hotel. So I went there & enjoyed my last afternoon in Europe in an amusement park. Tomorrow, I start my return trip home.

Orebro to Kalmar.

A DRIVE TO KALMAR.

Nothing unusual about the drive to Kalmar. As I drove south through Sweden, I came to a detour leading the traffic away from the main highway we were traveling on. At each change of direction there was an orange arrow directing the traffic back to the highway. Except at the on ramp I had to use to get back on my route, making me go an extra 20 miles. I eventually got back on track & arrived in Kalmar with no further problems. My hotel for tonight is located on the main square at the center of Kalmar. After I put my luggage away I went for a walk in old Kalmar. I wandered around thinking there is nothing really outstanding in this city. Then I found the Kalmar slott (castle). A fine example of an old castle with ramparts & a moat. This trip is coming to an end, tomorrow I will return to Gothenburg where I began this journey almost 6 weeks ago.

24 June 2008 Return to Sweden

I was unable to get an internet connection last night, so it’s catch-up time.
Today was just a drive to Orebro, Sweden. At 11am, I left Norway & returned to Sweden, the country in which I began this 6 week driving tour of Europe. Before I left Norway I managed to spend all my loose change (I saved some for Jake). For once the weather was warm & sunny. My route of travel lead me through rolling hills with aa mix of fields & forest. I arrived in Orebro earky enough to take a walking tour of the old town, which is dominated by a castle. I’m preparing to finish this journey soon. I have two more driving days until I return to Gothenburg on Thursday, June 26. On Friday, I return my car to Volvoland, where it will be prepared for shipping to California.
