12 June 2008 Autobahns & a walk to the recent past.

Today I just drove to Dreilinden (near Potsdam), Germany. 95% of the drive was on the German Autobahns. Of the all the European countries I’ve been driving through, the Germans drive the fastest. On the Autobahns I’ve been driving on lately, I’d say 20% of the drivers are driving well over 85mph. I’ve been up to 80mph & had a car come up from behind like a was going 25mph! Driving on the, autobahn requires constant attention to what’s coming up from behind. I drive a slow 70mph, which makes me faster than the trucks & about the same as 33% of the rest of the car traffic. The fast ones must be rich, because gas sells for about $8/gallon here. According to my car’s trip computer, I’m consuming gas at a rate of 28mpg when I have the cruise control set at 70mph. I can’t imagine how much gas it takes to maintain a speed of 90mph or faster. I imagine the accidents can be spectacular too!

Sorry, no new photos today.
