I left early to begin a long drive from Bishop, CA to Las Vegas, NV. I had a spectacular morning view of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Sierra mountains to the west of the Owens Valley are the highest in this mountain range. Mt. Whitney being the highest mountain hear. I stopped to visit the Manzanar, a detention camp for Japanese Americans during World War 2. Another sad page in American history. From here I traveled east to cross Death Valley. On the way to Las Vegas, I arrived at a road junction where my computer GPS navigation told me to turn left. A hand painted sign suggested turning right for a more “direct route” to Las Vegas. With a sense of adventure, I turned right. It was a pleasant drive on a desert back road with very light traffic. Eventually it joined Hwy 16o. I arrived in Las Vegas in time for the heavy commute traffic. Later, that evening I took a walk along the “Vegas Strip” to see the lights & casinos.
