26 MAY, 2008: BRUGE, BELGIUM.

Again, it’s a gray wet day. Bought gas & left early. It cost 55 euros to pump 36 litre of gasoline. What’s that in $/gallon? I’m not going to calculate that until I get home! I don’t need any bad news today. Stopped to look at an old castle towers in Zierikzee, Holland. Apparently, it’s leftover from a wall that once surrounded this small Dutch town. Many of these castle walls were rendered useless with the development of cannons in the 1200’s. Later in the day we spent a few hours exploring the old Belgium town of Bruge.

We got lost again in another European city. This time it was in Lille, in northern France.

25 MAY 2008: A DAY IN AMSTERDAM.

We woke up to gray skies & light rain this morning. We had scheduled this day for a visit to Amsterdam. After stalling a few hours, we decided to go visit the city & come home if the weather was too miserable. We went & we stayed for a few hours. We caught the bus here in Leidendorf & went to the Leiden station to get on the Amsterdam bound train. Our visit started out with a boat tour of the Amsterdam canals & harbor. After that we explored the maze of old city streets.

24 May 2008: Holland

Today was another from point A to B day watching the scenery go by. If it were Sunday, I guess it could have been a “Sunday Drive”. Had breakfast, filled the gas tank by 9am & left Bremen, Germany & drove about 260 mi. to Leiderdorp, Holland. The weather was mostly sunny & the scenery flat farm land. One place of interest, Zurich, we found by accident. We made a wrong turn & had to back track to correct our mistake. In doing so, we came upon the little Dutch village of Zurich. It’s located next to one of the large dykes along the North Sea. After that, we continued on & arrived at our hotel in Leiderdorf at about 2:30pm.
