29 May 2008: Drive France Belgium France

Not much happening today. We’re tired from the London/Paris visits & the weather is blah. We lost our way leaving (minor problem) Lille, but we got on our way OK. On our way to Metz, we drove through Luxembourg. For two days I will be in the Rhine & Alsace areas. Significant to me because my father was here during WW2 & I’m just curious about the places he mentioned when he talked about it.

26 MAY, 2008: BRUGE, BELGIUM.

Again, it’s a gray wet day. Bought gas & left early. It cost 55 euros to pump 36 litre of gasoline. What’s that in $/gallon? I’m not going to calculate that until I get home! I don’t need any bad news today. Stopped to look at an old castle towers in Zierikzee, Holland. Apparently, it’s leftover from a wall that once surrounded this small Dutch town. Many of these castle walls were rendered useless with the development of cannons in the 1200’s. Later in the day we spent a few hours exploring the old Belgium town of Bruge.

We got lost again in another European city. This time it was in Lille, in northern France.
