9 June 2008: Over the Alps in Austria.

I stayed in mountains as I drove to Salzburg, Austria. The scenic highlight was the Grossglockner & steep winding road over the Alps. In 1993 & 1995 I had planned to ride my bicycle over this road, but the severe weather conditions kept me away. Today I had a great day to cross the mountains. Later I visited Konigssee, a beautiful Alpine lake in Germany. I had the opportunity to take the boat tour of the lake. While I did stay in Salzburg, Austria, I chose not to visit the old city because I’d been here twice before.

8 June, 2008: A SUNDAY DRIVE TO THE MOUNTAINS.

Today, I left Italy as I drove north into a place in the Alps referred to as the “Dolomites”. In 1993, I had been in this area during my first bicycle trip in Europe. I got a room at Gosthof Haidenhof, with a great view of the mountains in Lienz, Austria.
