On our way to The Great Blasket Centre, we passed by Slea Head the most Westerly tip of Europe. At the Blasket Centre we found information about the Blasket Island fauna, geography & people. People have lived on this island for centuries, depending on fishing for their survival. Because the young people emigrated away in the early 20th century, the population declined to the point that they were no longer self sufficient. The Island was abandoned in the 1950’s. Chris & I had planned to take a boat to the Blasket Islands on the next day, but the trip was canceled due to rough seas.
