While we were on our guided tour of Derry, tour leader Pat pulled us aside & alerted our attention to an elderly man walking down the street. The man was John Hume, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998. He talked to us for a few minutes & continued on his way. A leader representing the Irish Catholics of Derry, he was one of the negotiators in the talks that brought about peace in Northern Ireland. I think he's the first Nobel Peace Prize winner I've ever met.
