June 13, 2009 A DAY IN DINGLE

No formal activities were scheduled for today. We were encouraged to do as we pleased in Dingle. Chris & I decided to get up early & ride the boat to the Great Blasket Island. We bought tickets for the boat ride which was scheduled to leave around noon. We then decided to hike out to the light house. On the way back to town, we met other members of the tour. Later we went back to the harbor to catch the boat. Unfortunately, the boat to Blasket Island was canceled due to “rough seas”.
What a disappointment!

We then set out to find the trail to the Eask Tower, located on top of a hill above Dingle Harbor. We walked along the narrow busy highway with hardly any space between us & the speeding cars (busses too!). After asking a local Irishman, we found the road that led to the tower. Feeling some stress in my left heel, I aborted the mission & returned to town. Chis trekked on & made it to the tower. I spent the rest of the day taking pictures. Eventually I met with Becky & Pam, who convinced me to join them to eat Irish Stew at a local pub. Later that evening, I joined members of our group at a local pub to listen to some Irish music.
