June 11, 2009 ON TO ROAD DINGLE!

Yes, today was another day of riding on the bus. It was a day of many things to do & see, including two unexpected surprises. Again, our tour leader, Pat, kept us informed & occupied. It was like being on a long field trip when I was a school boy. I even got to ride in the back of the bus today! On this busy day we traveled from Kinsale to Dingle with many stops between. Near Crookstown, we took an unexpected detour down a lonely Irish country road. Here, we stopped to visit the Memorial to Michael Collins Micheál Ó Coileáin), an Irish leader, who was assassinated at this location during the Irish Civil War of 1922. Next we stopped to have lunch & visit the town of Kenmare. Soon, we crossed the mountains at Moll’s Gap & stopped to visit Kissane Mountain Sheep Farm, where we observed demonstrations of sheep farming. Further down the road, we entered the scenic Killarney National Park where we stopped for some “photo ops”. We are now in the West of Ireland, where it’s not uncommon to hear the “Irish” language being spoken.
